Miami Beach Pop Festival Abruptly Postponed Due to ‘Unforeseen Circumstances’
Those waiting patiently waiting for the inaugural Miami Beach Pop Festival will have to wait longer — if it happens at all.
The festival, which was planned to take place directly on the city’s South Beach on November 8—10, has been indefinitely postponed.
The organizers of the festival would not elaborate on the reasons for the postponement. All they would say was that, due “to unforeseen circumstances,” they are trying “to secure a new date in the future.” Of course, that doesn’t sound promising, and suggests some serious issues with festival finances, municipal permits, or both.
And this wasn’t a smalltime event. The festival had scheduled a number of top musical acts to perform, including Chance the Rapper, Jack Johnson, The Raconteurs, Daddy Yankee, and Kygo.
If you purchased a ticket to the festival through the festival’s website using a credit or debit card, you reportedly will receive a refund for it through the website within 7 business days from October 8th. If you purchased a ticket through any other means, you can get a refund at the point of purchase.
The organizers of the festival did issue a formal statement in regards to the postponement.
They indicated that, while they are working on trying to find a new date for the festival, and those planning to attend should understand that the original lineup will likely change. This is because some (or all) of the scheduled performers may not be able to perform on the new date because of other commitments. The organizers further apologized for any inconvenience the postponement has caused ticket buyers.
Finally, the organizers thanked all the people who have supported the festival, including the musicians, the ticket buyers and the many hundreds of people who have working for nearly three years to make this event a reality. They further thanked the city of Miami Beach for continuing to support the festival.
Some media outlets, such as the Miami Herald, believe that the festival is more than just postponed. They believe that it will never happen.
Here’s the official statement.
Miami Beach Pop Festival has announced the postponement of the 2019 event, originally scheduled for November 8-10. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the continuation of the original plan is no longer viable. The producers of Miami Beach Pop Festival will be working with all involved parties to secure a new date in the future. The lineup will change, as some performers may be unable to accommodate a rescheduled date.
Ticket holders who purchased through the official Miami Beach Pop Festival website can expect to see refunds on their credit card or bank statement within seven business days from today, October 8th. All other ticket holders should reach out to their point of purchase for refunds. We apologize for the inconvenience while we determine a new date and the best path forward for the future of the event.
To our supporters and ticket buyers, artists, and the hundreds of people who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes for almost three years to bring this event to life, we thank you. We especially want to thank the City of Miami Beach for its continued support.
